Used in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with severe heart disease
Clinical significance of test
The soluble growth stimulation-expressed gene 2 protein (ST2) is a member of the interleukin 1(IL-1) receptor family. The protein has four subtypes, ST2L, SST2, ST2VS and ST2LV. ST2 levels predict prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction and heart failure.
Steps of operation
Clinical application
- Assessing acute heart failure
- Predicting the outcome of chronic heart failure
- Used as an aid for risk stratification in identifying patients who are at high risk of mortality and rehospitalization in patients diagnosed with heart failure
